Almost a third of voters in David Cameron's constituency would "seriously consider" voting against the Prime Minister if he does not offer a vote on Britain's future within the European Union future, according to a poll.
And one in 10 Tory supporters in Mr Cameron's Oxfordshire seat of Witney insisted they would would back another party if it offered a referendum on the UK's EU membership and the Conservatives did not.
The Com Res survey for pro-referendum campaign group the People's Pledge revealed that about two thirds of voters in the constituency want a referendum on whether the UK remains linked to Brussels.
More than half (53%) of Tories in the electoral district said the vote would be pointless unless it included an option for Britain to leave the EU.
Chris Bruni-Lowe from the People's Pledge said: "The Prime Minister can't afford to ignore support for an in/out EU referendum.
"Even a majority of Conservative voters in his own seat say holding one without an 'out' option would be pointless.
"The willingness of people to switch their vote to another party over a referendum should worry politicians who refuse to support a clear in/out vote on Britain's membership of the EU."
It comes just days after Tory backbenchers collaborated with Labour to defeat the Government over the EU budget.
Some 53 of the party's MPs joined forces with the Opposition to pass an amendment demanding a cut in the EU's seven-year funding package.
According to the poll, 69% of voters in Labour leader Ed Miliband's Doncaster North seat would also like an EU referendum.
