Two people have been killed after a light aircraft crashed close to the M1 motorway in Nottinghamshire, according to police.
Nottinghamshire Police said the men were thought to be the only people on board the plane when it came down near Hucknall, close to Nottingham, at around 1.30pm on Saturday.
Motorists on the M1 described seeing the plane nose-dive before it crashed into the ground near junction 26 of the motorway.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has launched an investigation into the crash.
One lane of the southbound M1 was closed after the accident.
Craig Wing was driving northwards on the M1 when he saw the plane fall to the ground.
He told Sky News: "I saw the aircraft, it flew over the motorway and then went straight down into a field.
"I had my kids in the car but I just did what I had to do, I turned around at the next junction and stopped by the field.
"I could see it was a bit of a mess."
